Digital Inclusion

Our world has slwoly been shifting to be a more technology dependent place, and the people who dont have access or the means to own technology are getting left behind. “Digitial Inclusion refers to the activities necessary to ensure that all individuals and communities, including the most disadvantaged, have access to and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs)” (NCIS, 1). Places like New York City have communities that struggle being able to have access to technology and this is a very relevant issue because at this level of dependence on technology, they lose a lot of access to the world and even a basic human right to have access to the internet.

Not only does it violate Human Rights of people, it makes life very difficult for others. Many families and communities lose out on a lot of opporortunity and can even become a hazard for them to not have access to the rest of the world. An example that is given is that many senior citizens who do not have access to technology have not been able to sign up and get the COVID-19 vaccine becuase either they dont know that they can, or because the sign up is done over the internet. In my eyes it is a situation of the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and it is our job to be aware of this issue and take steps to help other out who are in need of it. Helping could include voting for people who take address to this issue, funding charities and or organizations, donating technology and/or your time, and even starting the conversation about this issue is a step in the right direction.
